Patan Durbar Square, which lies in the center of Patan, is among the three durbar squares in the Kathmandu valley. On the Patan Durbar Square’s border, is the major business district of Patan, Mangal Bazaar. Patan is one of the oldest Buddhist cities. You will come across a number of shops selling statues of Hindu deities along with Lord Buddha, handicrafts and metal and wood carvings. Foreigners and SAARC nationals need to pay a little entry fee to enter the Patan Durbar Square.

Palace

Patan Durbar Square is also World Heritage Site in Nepal, it comes with a fantastic group of nice pagoda temples, stone statues, drinking water spouts, bronze gateways, images of guardian deities and elaborate timber and metal carvings. Temples

Some of the famed temples of Patan are the Krishna Mandir, Krishna Temple, Taleju Bhawani, Bhimsen Temple, Vishwanath Temple, Uma Maheshwar temple, and Jagannarayan Temple (Char- Narayan Temple), Bhai Dega Temple along with Hari Shankar Temple.

The three storied Krishna Mandir was developed by King Siddhi Narsingha Malla at the 16th century. Scenes from Mahabharata and Ramayana (sacred Hindu epics) are carved onto the walls of their Krishna Mandir.

Jagannarayan Temple, which dates back to 1565, has been reputed to be the oldest temple in the Patan Durbar Square. Jagannarayan Temple is devoted to Narayan. Hiranya Varna Mahavihar that will be also known as the Golden Temple is just a 3 storied Buddhist monastery, specialized in Lokeswar (Lord Buddha). The monastery was built by King Bhaskar Malla at the 12th century.

Courtyards

Patan Durbar Square includes Keshav Narayan Chowk Mul Chowk, 3 courtyards along with Sundari Chowk. Mul Chowk, which is the fundamental courtyard, could be the oldest and also the biggest courtyard. Stands the Bidya Temple that is gilded. Sundari Chowk, which is to the south Mul Chowk, features a sunken water tank (Tusha Hiti) which comprises wonderful wood carvings, stone, and metallic sculpture.
