As we bid farewell to 2024 and welcome 2025, we extend warm Christmas greetings to President Hakainde Hichilema. Along with our best wishes, we have a heartfelt message: the fight against corruption must remain a priority, including addressing issues within State House itself.

While we commend your recent actions, such as dismissing corrupt Permanent Secretaries, there is growing concern about your reluctance or delay in addressing allegations against some of your close aides, particularly your legal advisor, Christopher Mundia.

Christopher Mundia has become a controversial figure, often compared to Kaizer Zulu, the infamous aide during Edgar Lungu’s presidency whose actions embarrassed the government. Despite warnings, Lungu’s failure to act against Kaizer Zulu ultimately contributed to his downfall. Mr. President, we fear history may be repeating itself.

One significant example is Mundia’s alleged role in shielding ETG, a fertilizer company, from accountability. Reports suggest he used his influence to block investigations into missing fertilizer worth $43 million, funds that were never accounted for. Mundia’s ties to ETG have reportedly ensured the company continues to benefit from lucrative government contracts.

Additionally, Mundia is said to have been involved in schemes targeting investors. These schemes reportedly involve seizing funds under dubious pretenses, forcing investors into settlements while siphoning off large commissions. Victims include investors from Zimbabwe and Nigeria, creating a climate of fear and mistrust.

What’s troubling is the perception that Mundia is untouchable. He reportedly boasts that no one can remove him from his position and that those who challenge him risk dismissal. This was evident in the case of former Inspector General of Police Lemmy Kajoba, who was fired after implicating Mundia in a financial scandal.

We understand that your bond with Mundia may be rooted in a promise to his late father, Christopher Mundia Sr. However, loyalty must not come at the expense of good governance.

Mr. President, for the sake of your legacy and Zambia’s future, we urge you to act decisively in 2025.

Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
