- Price over value: deciding on the cheapest number alone, instead of treating the build as an investment in lifestyle, comfort, and long-term use.
- Attachment: letting someone put posts on the house side of the roof, when they’re usually unnecessary and make the whole job look cheap
- Drainage: running house water and pergola water into one gutter, which invites leaks and flooding
- Light and heat: getting the balance wrong, so the new space is too dark, or too hot to use in summer
Each mistake comes with the reasoning behind it, not just a warning.
