It’s not easy to install a flare on the end of a brake line, even using precision shaping equipment. The majority of lines used today are made of metals and alloys that are hard to work with to produce complex designs; brake lines made of steel or stainless steel, for instance, need a lot of power to form a flare. You must also take care during the flaring operation of the steel brake line to prevent the brake tube end from breaking or crushing. First, accurately measure the length of the production line before beginning to flare it. To allow for the flare, add around 1/2 inch on either end. Using a preferred flaring tool, the flare may be created after the tube nuts are in line. Press the 3/16″ punch on the tool, then replace it with the 45-degree 3/16″ punch and press one more.
