Nairobi, Kenya -During the World Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Day, GetWellGo participates with people, families, caregivers and healthcare providers in Kenya to raise awareness about multiple sclerosis, a form of chronic nerve disorder which has claimed thousands of lives all over the world. This year the celebration is not only about learning the disease but raising voices, creating support networks, and making sure that no patient feels isolated in his or her process.

Multiple sclerosis is a long-term illness that attacks the central nervous system which interferes with the movement of information between the brain and the body. Its symptoms may be very diverse and may include fatigue and walking difficulties, vision issues, and cognitive impairments. The uncertainty surrounding MS is an added emotional and financial burden to many Kenyan patients and thus awareness and early diagnosis is even more important.

The awareness on MS is still on the rise in Kenya. Many patients are often not diagnosed as there is less access to specialists and diagnostic centres. World MS Day is a strong reminder that teaching and early treatment can have an enormous positive impact on patients.

Behind each of the diagnoses, there is a very personal story. For the patients with this disease life can be a challenge. Everyday work and living a normal life can become difficult. GetWellGo understands that MS journey does not end at medical treatment. It concerns the emotional well-being, social integration, and access to the appropriate resources at the appropriate time. GetWellGo assists Kenyan patients in getting access to high-quality services, a distinguished neurologist, and a personalized care program by collaborating with hospitals and other healthcare professionals abroad.

GetWellGo seeks to narrow this gap by providing medical traveling services to such countries as India where more affordable and better-developed MS treatments are available through its patient-first approach. Patients are assisted in every step – from the first consultations and hospital selection to the booking of travel and follow-ups after treatment. This whole support is illuminating for patients and their families, enabling them to focus on what matters most: healing and hope.

It is equally important to dispel the stigma around neurological disorders. Lack of awareness leads to misunderstanding or isolation of many MS patients. Communities can help patients feel that they are not judged but that they are supported by means of open discussions and empathy.

World MS Day helps to identify the strength of everyone affected by the condition. Yet facing everything they want to live their dreams and become inspiration for everyone. Their stories show the world that MS doesn’t take away the patient’s dream if the will power is strong.
